Objective
This SOP outlines the steps to filter software during the onboarding phase to optimize asset management in Jira.
Key Steps
1. Access the Software Filters Tab 0:00
Navigate to the second tab recommended for the onboarding phase.
This tab contains filters that will help manage software objects before syncing to Jira.
2. Load Default Rules 0:41
Click on 'Load Default Rules' to view the pre-set rules for macOS and Windows.
Familiarize yourself with the default rules, which include:
macOS: com.app.pole, Intel, Microsoft
Windows: .NET packages, Broadcom drivers.
3. Add Custom Rules 1:43
If you need to ignore specific software, select the platform and add a rule.
Example: To ignore software containing '1Password', input the name in the rule.
You can also use regex for more complex filtering.
4. Sync Endpoint and Review Software List 2:04
Ensure the endpoint is synced to view the list of software installed on the machine.
Review the list to identify software that should be ignored.
5. Identify Whitelisted Software 2:33
Use the first machine to gather information on software that should be whitelisted.
Apply the ignore rules to prevent tracking of these whitelisted software.
6. Use case: Monitor Non-Whitelisted Software 3:18
You may focus on monitoring non-whitelisted (blacklisted) software, by white list all permited software on your company. All not permited will be collected by iConfig and listed in Assets Software Object Type.
This process helps reduce the number of objects in assets and manage limits effectively.
Cautionary Notes
Ensure that the rules you create do not inadvertently ignore critical software.
Regularly review and update the rules as necessary to adapt to new software installations.
Tips for Efficiency
Utilize regex for more precise filtering when adding custom rules.
Document any changes made to the rules for future reference.
